Geography: What is it good for? Democracy!?

"Why does a banker or farmer need geography?" asks Gil Grosvenor, past editor of National Geographic magazine & current National Geographic Society Chairman of the Board. 

Then he answers his own question "Democracy demands that you be literate, that you be educated, that you understand issues. Otherwise, worse than casting your vote poorly, sometimes you're going to cast it in an area you don't want to cast it."
