The day has come! Maybe you already know, that Jimmy Kimmel, comedian and the host of the late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live, has declared the November 17 as National (Facebook) UnFriend Day.
Kimmel asks Facebook users to unfriend anyone on Facebook "who isn't really your friend - the annoying people. The people who feel the need to inform you of every thought that enters their head... I would guess that 90% of your Facebook friends aren't even your friends at all. Most of you probably don't even like."
At first this may sound awkward, but on second thoughts he may have a point. For example, he says:
- If you wouldn't loan someone $50
- If you wouldn't invite them to your birthday party
- If you wouldn't cry if they got hit by a bus, UNFRIEND THEM!
"There's no such thing as strangers, only friends you haven't met yet." is one of my favourite quotes. I met many nice people on social media. Mostly first met on Twitter, then friended them on Facebook or liked their pages on Facebook.
However, I agree with him on some aspects like "It's impossible to have 1000 friends. It's time to cut the friend fat in your life..." Maybe creating a Facebook page is a better solution to have thousands of "fans or followers".
And if a "so called" friend begins to annoy me I won't wait for November 17. Don't worry Jimmy! ;)
What's your opinion on this subject? Do you think you have excess amount of "friends" on Facebook or are you happy with your crowd?
