Interested in Space Travel? This could be your chance to become an astronaut!

Since the first time you read "Have Space Suit - Will Travel" of Robert A. Heinlein, or Hergé's "Tintin: Destination Moon" you always dreamt of space travel. However, it was a distant possibility for an average human being to get accepted to the NASA space programs (Well, Homer "The Average-naut" Simpson is always an exception). Now this could be your chance to travel to space...

ARES Institute offers an opportunity to the ordinary members of the general public, just like you and me, to accompany its investigators on a suborbital spaceflight. During the spaceflight you will not only fly to the edge of space and experience weightlessness, but will also assist scientists and researchers with hands-on experiments.

This contest is open to anyone age 18 or over. You don't have to be a scientist or engineer to apply to this contest. There are no educational or physical requirements or limitations to participation except such physical requirements that the spaceflight itself might impose (for example, heart conditions).

No purchase is necessary to apply, but in exchange for a donation of $10 or more, you will receive a DVD set of highlights of space shuttle Discovery's final mission ever (STS-133) and a three-month subscription to SpaceflightNews.net All-Access as well as a one-year membership to ARES Institute.

The deadline to apply for the contest is midnight, December 31, 2012. The research flight is tentatively scheduled to take place in the first half of 2014.

ARES Institute, a US based non-profit organization, is working to establish a hands-on space-oriented engineering program to provide valuable skills training for the aerospace workforce of the future. Its mission also includes public outreach activities to raise public awareness and support of space exploration. The purpose of this event is to support the activities of ARES Institute.

You may submit your application on ARES website or you may download a PDF form or MS Word document for applying via snail mail. The terms and conditions can be found here.
