Magazine of the future... Out now for iPad!

I bet since you first saw Minority Report, you were looking forward to put your hands on the e-newspaper featured in the movie. Now you can (almost) do the same with Project, an innovative multimedia magazine built specially for iPad.

Developed by Virgin Digital Publishing Ltd, Project is defined as a monthly interactive digital magazine. It converges audio and video interviews, 3D videos & sound effects with (sort of) conventional magazine editorial. The project has an interactive cover (as seen above). and you can even play with the adverts. "It's going to make advertising a hundred times more efficient," says Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group. Branson launched a magazine called "Student" when he was a teenager and has since built an empire.

First edition's cover story features upcoming Tron: Legacy's star Jeff Bridges - videos and an audio interview on his best-known roles. The article includes pictures from Tron: Legacy and clicking on each photo provides a commentary by the actor about the scene in question.

The first edition also features articles about celebrated Danish chef Rene Redzepi; creator of the video game Gran TurismoKazunori Yamauchi; Jaguar’s 205 mph hypercar, 3D video tour of Tokyo and the world’s coolest record label.

"It's about big ideas, about ideas that are shaping the world today," says Project editor-in-chief Anthony Noguera in an interview with AFP. A former editor of FHM & Arena, Noguera adds, "Many of the people (featured in the magazine) are not household names but they should be." According to Noguera, Project will take advantage of the full capabilities of the iPad's multi-media format. "On every page there will be links to expand the story," he says.

Launched on 1 December, Project is only available for the iPad for the moment. App is free, cost per issue is $2.99 for "a full month's worth of updating content." It is expected to come to the iPhone in the next few months and later to other tablets.

If you're viewing this post on an iPad you can download Project magazine from here. Warning! The Project app requires iOS 4.2, the latest version.

P.S. Media mogul Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.'s new digital newspaper for the iPad The Daily is expected to be launched in the next few weeks.
