Vintage book on birds fetched $10 million at auction, became most expensive book

First published in 1827, "Birds of America" is a book by naturalist John James Audubon. The book has 435 hand-coloured illustrations and a huge dimensions of 3 feet x 2 feet (100 cm x 60 cm).

On Tuesday, in London at a Sotheby's auction the book was sold for $10 million, to an anonymous telephone bidder. Experts say, a plate alone could easily fetch $200,000.

Online version of "Birds of America" could be viewed on on the Audubon website. Today Audubon's name lives with National Audubon Society, dedicated to "conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife".
